A Bit About Me
Dr. Owusu-Boakyewaa is the founder and president of Hope Community Resources Center Inc (HCRC), which was established in 2018 with the aim to support African immigrant community in the United States. Her vision is to shape HCRC from a a start-up agency with an initial budget of less than $30,000 to a major community-based organization for the African immigrants and minorities in the United States. HCRC offers a wide range of cultural, economic, educational, legal, and social services at the local and national levels.

A native From Ghana, Dr. Owusu-Boakyewaa received her undergraduate degree, and both graduate degrees, Master of Social Work, (MSW), and PhD in Allied Health Science, all from Virgina Commonwealth University (VCU), in Richmond Virginia. She also holds a certificate Aging Studies also from VCU. Dr. Owusu-Boakyewaa is also a Professor of Social ministry at Missional University where she teaches courses in immigrant & refugee social work.
While meeting the many challenges of running a multifaceted organization, Dr. Owusu-Boakyewaa is also a program Supervisor/Specialist with Fairfax County Community Services Board, where she works for the past twenty years supporting people with mental health challenges. She is also active in civic, professional, and local community affairs with the African immigrant’s community in Northen Virginia. She frequently lectures locally and nationally on mental health issues and cross-cultural studies.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Dr. Owusu-Boakyewaa, received the African Community Services Award (ACSA) for Leadership, Advocacy and Networking in September 2022 for her work with the African immigrant’s community in Northern Virginia. She is also a board member of the African Community Service Award Committee.
